Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead full lives in their homes, at work, and in the community.

About the Organization:

Concerned by governmental institutionalization, Las Trampas School, Inc. was founded in 1958 through a collaboration of parents, family members, and community partners to advance the principles of full inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community life.  Each day, Las Trampas serves over 120 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Central Contra Costa County through adult day program services, supported and independent living services, and licensed adult residential facilities.   Understanding that the people we serve deserve the greatest opportunities to achieve their goals, Las Trampas has recently determined to enhance its programs with a state-of-the-art facility to replace our current, outdated campus located in Lafayette, CA with the goal of increasing the quality of services and the number of people served.

It is the philosophy of Las Trampas that all persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to develop their optimum state of social, physical, and mental well-being and share an integrated lifestyle to what people without disabilities enjoy.  This philosophy is based on the following beliefs:

Reports to:     Executive Director

Position Description:

The Director of Philanthropy will play a key leadership role in advancing the mission of the organization through strategic collaboration with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and program constituents to create, implement, and manage multi-year fund development and capital campaign plans designed to support Las Trampas’ near and long-term goals.  The Director of Philanthropy reports to the Executive Director and serves on the organization’s Leadership Team, which supports the Executive Director in visioning and executing the overall development of the organization. 

Major Responsibilities

• Planning – Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year major gifts, planned giving, and institutional giving strategic plan to increase the number of donors, donor retention, deepen donor engagement, grow unrestricted contributed income, improve awareness of Las Trampas’ mission and brand, and strengthen Las Trampas’ fund development infrastructure.   Plan and coordinate all logistics associated with fundraising and friend-raising events.

• Staff Management – Recruit, direct, and supervise development support staff (one full-time administrative assistant), volunteers, and consultants to develop and align appropriate fundraising strategies, tactics, and messaging. 

• Leadership – Function as an organizational leader and highly collaborative member of the Leadership Team, working closely with the Executive Director and Program Directors to articulate program goals in impact to donors and funders and to create engagement opportunities.  Hold organizational responsibility of major individual giving, institutional giving, and planned giving.

• Donor Engagement – Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive donor stewardship program that includes regular communication, events, visits, and other tactics to build and deepen relationships and inspire frequent and larger gifts. Maintain a portfolio of key donors and support members of the Board and the Executive Director in managing portfolios.

• Board Development - Work in close partnership with the Executive Director, Board Chair, and Board members to build the Board’s capacity in major donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.  Serve as primary staff to the Board’s Development Committee.

• Financial Accountability – In partnership with the Director of Business Services, develop and oversee the department budget including fundraising activity plans that maximize participation and/or contributions and minimize expenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

• Successful track record of setting and meeting ambitious and realistic fundraising goals.

• Four years verifiable success in managing fundraising programs such as direct mail, digital fundraising, major gifts,  (including “making the ask” and “closing”), institutional fundraising, special events, and planned giving.

• Proven success engaging board members and high-level volunteers in major gifts fundraising.

• Experience in public relations, communications, marketing, and digital media for non-profits.

• Experience with capital fundraising including capital campaigns is preferred.

• A minimum of one year of supervisory experience (four or more years’ experience preferred).

• Extensive experience with computer software systems including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), donor database software (Donor Perfect), internet, and website software.

• Highly ethical and professional standards.

• Strong leadership skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, vision, personal and group accountability, coaching, mentoring, and inspiring others to excel.

• Superior verbal and written communication skills.

• Personal vehicle to be used for company business, current and valid California driver’s license, and a driving record that meets agency standards for driving on company business.
