The Direct Service Professional is responsible for providing support
and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in a
licensed residential setting. The DSP is responsible for understanding
the goals and objectives of the individuals served as outlined in the
individuals’ Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and Individual Service
Plans (ISPs). The DSP provides assistance to individuals served in
meeting their personal needs, support and training in the acquisition
of skills, respecting the personal rights of individuals with
developmental disabilities, and providing for the care, welfare and
safety of the individuals served.
The DSP is also responsible for providing basic housekeeping
services, cooking of meals, and supporting consumers’ full
participation in their lives and the responsibilities of an adult
life. The DSP is responsible for adhering to California Code of
Regulations, Titles 17 and 22, Consumer Rights, and all aspects of the
Individual Service Plan (ISP) process.
